Microform Viewer/Scanner: File Saving and Printing

Using the BCL microform viewer/scanner

Printing or Saving your Document

There are a number of ways to save or print the images you have placed in the Capture Bin. For most of these, you'll need to open the File tab, but there's also a Quick Print option available from the Browsing and Cropping tabs. File save options include saving to a flash drive, Google Drive, or a Bethel College network folder.

Quick Printing a single image

You can send any image in your Capture Bin to a networked printer by selecting and clicking on the image and then clicking the Print Image button in the pop-up box:

Note that this command sends the print job directly to the default printer. Before using it, check to see where the job will be sent. You may have to select library-printer on ps if you want to print to the front desk printer (copies are 5 cents/page). If that option does not show up in the Windows Devices and Printers menu, please ask a staff member to help you add it.

Printing a multi-page document

For more options in formatting your document for printing, click on the File tab and choose Print from the menu on the left side.

By default, all captured images will be selected; you can de-select any image by clicking on it. When you click Print, all the selected images will print to the designated printer in the order that they appear in the preview window. Documents sent to ps\library-printer will print at the library front desk and cost 5 cents/page.

Saving documents to a flash drive

To save your images to a flash drive, first insert the drive into a free port in the multi-plug USB unit, making sure the square On button is depressed (and lit up) for that port:

From the File menu, choose File Save, and click the folder icon next to Save to local PC to browse for the correct drive.

Select the appropriate file destination and click Save to store the images on your flash drive. The default file format is a multi-page PDF, but a number of other options are available from the drop-down menus under Format and Settings.

Saving documents to the network

If you are logged in with your own Bethel College network credentials, you can save images to your network folder.

Saving documents to Google Drive

With a few extra steps, ViewScan also allows you to save files directly to Google Drive. When you choose this option from the File Save menu, the program attempts to open Internet Explorer. You can skip that step by choosing Ask me later:

Choose No when asked to make Internet Explorer your default browser:

Next, you must allow the ViewScan program to access your Google Drive:

And finally, once you've checked your file format and settings, you're ready to click Save!
