Guide for Faculty & Staff: Policies

Here's the place to start learning about how the College Library can help you and your students.

On the Bethel College website

Library policies, including circulation periods, are available on the Bethel College website.  Just follow the links below.

Donations

The library welcomes thoughtful donations of books, periodical subscriptions, or other materials that support the curriculum of the college.  If you donate to the library, it is important that you understand the conditions under which the gift is given and accepted.  A gift becomes the property of the library. Library staff reserve the right to determine whether or and when it will be added to the collection, where it will be located, and how it will be made accessible.

We currently receive several popular and scholarly journals as regular donations, along with scholarly monographs.

We especially appreciate gifts of popular literature (including trade paperbacks) to supplement our recreational reading collection.

How do I order books?

Faculty may request the purchase of books that support the curriculum of the college.  As a general rule, the College Library does not collect textbooks. Doing so would deplete the budget--and we would not be able to order any other supporting materials.

We will do our best to purchase what you need using available funds.  Just ask, and we'll see what we can do!

You may request materials (books or DVDs) from Barbara Thiesen

If you have any special requests (rush processing, putting on reserve (when available), holding for you), let Barbara know when you send her your order.

Library staff also select materials for the library using a variety of tools, including their knowledge of the curriculum and historic usage data, book reviews, "best book" lists, etc.

What's up with no library card?

You do not need a library card to check out materials.  Just give your name to the circulation desk attendant.

You can, however, use your campus ID for:

1.  Renewing materials yourself.  Click on the "Sign in" link in the library catalog and supply your full BC email address and the BC login password that you use for other campus resources like Moodle or Thresher Connect.

2.  Accessing digital resources from off-campus requires different login credentials for each platform. See our FAQs page for step-by-step instructions for how to login.
