English: Books Worldwide

An introduction to finding literature and literary criticism in print, in library databases, and on the web.

Finding books outside the BC Library

Sometimes the College Libraries don't own the materials you need for your research.

You can use some of the tools listed on this page to help identify useful materials, then you can order them using interlibrary loan using the Kansas Library Catalog and WorldCat.

For more details on how interlibrary loan (ILL) works, click here.

Help Identifying Relevant Books with Amazon and Google

Not sure which books you want to ILL from other libraries?  You can use three openly available databases to find books owned by other libraries.

Amazon:  Use Amazon's "Look Inside the Book" to evaluate a title before you ILL it.  (You'll need to have an account with Amazon before you can use this feature.)

Google Books:  Like with Amazon, you can preview content of many books.  The complete text of some books that are no longer copyrighted may be available, as well. Below is a record from Google Books.

WorldCat.org enables you to search libraries across the world for books you want to read.  If it knows where you are, it will find the books closest to your location, including the Bethel College Library.  It will NOT tell you if the book is checked in, nor will will it allow you to place an interlibrary loan request.

To actually request these books via ILL, you need to use either the Kansas Library Catalog or WorldCat (FirstSearch).
